At Broomhill Grange, we pride ourselves in having quality horses, which are left to grow up naturally. The family policy with young horses, is to let them grow on and do very little with them until they have matured.
The strongest horses are backed at three years old and then turned away to grow on. They are well handled and kept “sensible” by the occasional ride. They never have rugs in winter, just plenty of haylage and sugar beet, allowing the natural coat to grow to keep them warm.
There are two or three hunt horses which are used as company for the young stock, teaching them manners for the rider, while retaining the boldness to go when asked.
We regularly hunt with Readyfield Bloodhounds, which chase “the clean boot”. In other words a runner lays the scent without dragging anything, just their own body odours, which tend to “improve” after the first half mile! The pack puts on very varied days from “children’s and introductory” through “optional jumping” to big days over Leicestershire hedges.
You are welcome to come and see the horses any time by appointment, please see contact page for more information. Thanks.
